Whoopee! We're at Fresh Direct!

Fans of the classic whoopee pie from our pastry chef, Jessica Seigel, will be delighted to hear they are now available through Fresh Direct, the king of home and office-delivered groceries and prepared and catered foods.  These guys deliver throughout Manhattan, the boroughs and some parts of North Jersey like Jersey City.   Look for us in the bakery section of their website (but just you pay no nevermind to the calorie count. )  Our classic whoopee is a large, soft, chocolate sandwich cake filled with marshmallow cream and is available now.  On deck for the fall season are our Pumpkin Whoopee Pies, which are due to hit Fresh Direct Monday, October 20, just in time for the Halloween festivities. This creation comes in part from our intern, Harold, a true foodie and intrepid baker, and in part from the chef, once again.  Two moist pumpkin sandwich cakes are filled with spiced pumpkin marshmallow cream.  It is truly like eating pumpkin pie, in a much more convenient and portable form!  In the store, we've created an addiction for all those who've tried it.

For those of you not in Fresh Direct territory, we still stock the store.   So come by for a pie, or a case. We're all set.

Inspiring Cake Designers

Even our youngest customers like to get in on designing the perfect birthday cakes! This cake was inspired by a young artist who sent in her own hand drawing to help our cookie decorators. 

Au Revoir Polka Dot

One of our Flour Girls is moving on -- and taking our cake delivery guy with her.  Little Polka Dot, so named by her partner in cookies for her desire to polka dot every cookie that came her way, is packing up her pastry bags and moving to sunny California.  I can barely type the words, it's too much to bear.  While she may never want to see a decorated cookie or a mixing bowl of royal icing again, we will miss her dearly for her style, her talent, her consistent bad luck in fielding the calls and visits from our more challenging customers, her sass and her movie savvy.  It has been a treat working with and learning from her and she will be missed dearly.

Here, Kelli celebrated her 40th with a fun beach themed cake, while Nathan rang in the big "6" with a custom Star Wars cake.

I am thrilled to introduce our new blog, The Flour Show, where we can showcase pictures of our favorite cakes and give you some behind-the-scenes tidbits on our designs and our designers. We will also feature tips for some simpler cakes you can make at home as well as a sprinkling of recipes, how-to's and pitfalls to avoid.
